Stripes of electronic interference visually transform three-dimensional painting into flat, almost non-figurative art. The four basic elements—water, earth, fire, and air—seem to lose their original meanings, polluted by information garbage.
In addition to the discomfort caused by weather sensitivity (changes in atmospheric pressure, magnetic storms, temperature fluctuations), there is a new epidemic – MEDIA addiction. In recent years, our relationship with information and the world around us has been changing rapidly. We have witnessed how a large number of people exist without removing their headphones from their ears and without taking their eyes off the screen of their smartphone, computer, or television.
There is nothing wrong with radio, television, or social media. What is bad is that they are used for various manipulations. Instead of useful information, we get propaganda; instead of answers to questions, we get advertising. As a result, we eat what someone else considers tasty and healthy, wear what someone else considers stylish and comfortable, and elect people to power who are least concerned about the interests of society.
I believe that this is the main message of Eduard Potapenkov's exhibition “MEDIA Dependence,” which will open at the Triptych Art Gallery in Kyiv on July 17 at 7 p.m.
And one more thing – the artist does not try to technically simplify the communication of his ideas to the viewer through illustrative schematics of the image. The canvases feature genuine, masterful painting.
